# Linear Momentum Lab report

Answer the following questionsPick one data set and graph x vs. t for a period just before and just after the collision for each cart (that means two separate graphs — one for each cart). Be sure to label each graph completely and include appropriate signs and units.2. Looking at the graphs, mark where the collision occurred and determine the direction of the cart for each portion of the graph. Be sure that you understand this, since the two Motion Sensors face different directions and may have different references for a negative velocity.3. Q1. Based on your (t, x) data points on each graph, what is the velocity of each cart before and after the collision? Estimate the uncertainty in v.Is it more reliable to calculate the velocity using individual data points or by graphically finding the best slope?Use the more reliable method to find the velocities for all the data runs, including the runs with the dynamics cart.4. Using the velocities and the mass of each cart, calculate the momentum of the system before and after each collision for all the data runs.Q2. Was momentum conserved in each collision? How does the uncertainty affect your answer?5. Using the same data, calculate the kinetic energy of the system before and after each collision for all the data runs.Q3. For collisions with the two collision carts, did you expect energy to be conserved? Was energy conserved in each collision (i.e., was it elastic, partially elastic or inelastic)?Q4. For any data runs in which energy was not conserved, how much energy was lost? Does this seem like a large energy loss or a small one?
Along with this complete the chart by calculating momentum and kinetic energy before and after the collision.
Cart 1 and 1/2 for the first three trials are collision carts that were lightly pushed and then bounced off of each other
Cart 1(collision cart) and 2(dynamics cart) we’re lightly pushed towards each other on a ramp. The two carts stuck together and moved in the direct of cart 2 to its original placement.
The graph and the calculations section has been done. It’s only the conclusion and discussion analysis to be done.
